Swagger Jackers or TRIB-BUGS?

The TRIB-BUGS dressed in styles inspired by the original Reggae Bugs crew

Across the islands, bugs have been spotted wearing familiar outfits, striking familiar poses, and performing with unmistakable Reggae Bugs style.

At first glance, it looked like somebody was swagger jacking the original crew.

But the truth is much more interesting.

Meet the TRIB-BUGS

They call themselves TRIB-BUGS—bugs inspired by the Reggae Bugs who celebrate the crew through music, fashion, dance, and live performance.

A TRIB-BUG does not pretend to be one of the originals, steal the crew’s identity, or claim somebody else’s style as their own.

TRIB-BUGS openly recognize the Reggae Bugs as the source of their inspiration, then add their own personalities to what they perform.

Inspired, Not Imitating

The outfits may look familiar. The poses may remind audiences of Yanky, T-Bone, Energizer, Hippie, and the rest of the crew.

But look closer.

Each TRIB-BUG brings something personal to the performance. One may reinterpret a dance move. Another may remix a musical entrance. Another may combine several Reggae Bugs influences into a completely new stage personality.

They are not replacements for the original crew.

They are proof that the movement is spreading.

Swagger Jacking or Showing Respect?

Some bugs still call it swagger jacking.

The TRIB-BUGS disagree.

Swagger jackers take somebody else’s style without acknowledging where it came from. TRIB-BUGS proudly identify the source and make sure audiences know who inspired them.

Their performances are built on admiration, recognition, and respect.

What appears to be copying from a distance becomes something different up close:

How Big Has the Movement Become?

The arrival of the TRIB-BUGS raises a bigger question.

How far can the Reggae Bugs’ sound, fashion, language, and attitude travel before they become part of island culture itself?

The original crew started with music, friendship, ambition, and a dream of reaching the world.

Now other bugs are dressing like them, performing their songs, studying their moves, and creating performances inspired by them.

The Reggae Bugs are no longer building only an audience.

They may be inspiring a movement.

Meet the Originals

The TRIB-BUGS may celebrate the style, but there is only one original Reggae Bugs crew.
